Privacy Policy
Last updated:
Fastfind (“the app”) is a file manager for Mac, developed by RUI. This policy explains what the app does with your data. In short: Fastfind does not collect any data. Your files and the index of them never leave your Mac.
Data we collect
None. Fastfind has no account, no analytics, no advertising, no crash reporting service and no third-party SDKs. The app does not send your files, file names, search terms or usage to us or to anyone else.
The app runs in Apple’s App Sandbox and does not have the permission to make network connections on its own.
Access to your files
Browsing and searching files is what Fastfind is for, so it needs to read them:
- Startup disk. When you first open Fastfind, you choose your startup disk in a standard macOS dialog. Fastfind stores a sandbox bookmark so it does not have to ask again.
- Protected folders. macOS asks separately before Fastfind can read folders such as Desktop, Documents and Downloads. You can change these answers in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Files and Folders.
- Full Disk Access (optional). If you turn it on, Fastfind can also read other apps’ data and the Trash. You can turn it off at any time in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Full Disk Access.
Fastfind only changes files when you ask it to: copying, moving, renaming, compressing, tagging or moving items to the Trash.
Data stored on your Mac
Everything Fastfind stores is kept inside its sandbox container, ~/Library/Containers/cv.rui.fastfind/:
- The file index: file and folder names, paths, sizes and dates, used for search, folder sizes and recent-file lists.
- The content index: a lookup table of short character sequences found in the text files in your home folder, so that searching inside files is fast. Matching lines are read from the files themselves when you search.
- Tag records: which of your files carry Finder tags, so tags can be searched.
- Settings: favorites, saved searches, per-folder view settings, excluded folders and other preferences.
- External disk indexes: one per external disk you connect, so it can be searched later. You can remove one under Settings › Index.
None of this is uploaded. To delete it all, quit Fastfind and delete the folder above, or move the app to the Trash and then delete the folder.
In-app purchase
Fastfind Pro is a one-time in-app purchase handled by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive your payment details. The app only checks with Apple’s StoreKit whether Pro has been purchased with your Apple Account. Apple’s handling of purchase data is covered by Apple’s privacy policy.
Children
Fastfind does not collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date.
